Conference for obesity in Coimbatore

An International conference on Laparoscopic surgery for obesity would be held in Coimbatore from July 21.

The two-day programme, +Laparofit-2007,+ consists of live surgical workshops, lectures, debates and other academic programmes, Dr C Palanivelu, Director, Gem Hospital India Pvt Ltd, the organisors, told reporters here on Thursday.

The hospital has planned to conduct a public awareness programme where the patients can interact with the National and International experts and also with the patients who had already undergone weight reducing operation, he said.

Prof.Rudolph Weiner of Germany, Raul J Rosenthal of USA and himself would demonstrate various live laparoscopic weight reduction operation during the conference. The hospital would conduct a free obesity camp for overweight persons, who would be evaluated and free treatment would be given for deserving economically deprived.

The camp would be on July eight in the hospital and about 10 patients would be selected for the free surgeries, he said.
